Benefits of Instagram

Stories are a great way of continuing to build that and connection with your audience.

trusttrust And one of the really great things that you have at your disposal, if you're thinking about using Instagram as a brand or business, is the Instagram stickers.

You might be sitting there wondering, "Well, should I use YouTube?

 "Should I use Instagram?

 "Should I use Twitter?

 "Should I use Facebook?"

And so this whole post is really to help you decide whether Instagram might be right for you by talking through some of those juicy benefits of using Instagram and why it might be the right choice for you to use it to support and grow your business.

I'm an Instagram strategist and educator

Now without further ado, let's jump into the benefits.

And the first one that we are talking about, it's free, and no matter your business size, you can see success.

That's right, contrary to what some people might say, what some people might tell you, you do not need to spend any money on advertising in 2020, to see success on Instagram.

You will need to make another kind of investment which is an investment of your time if you want to see success on Instagram, purely because it's such a busy platform now in 2020.

 It's very saturated.

And so if you want to see success, if you want to grow, if you want to have cut-through with your target market and your ideal customers and clients, you are going to need to be willing to invest some time to engage with them, and to grow your presence and your visibility.

That will take time, but you do not need to spend any money on advertising.

And it doesn't matter if you're a big business or if you're a small business, your following doesn't matter.

All that matters is your dedication to engaging with your community and growing your community and being proactive about it.

And that is what sees results and is still seeing results today.

The next benefit of using Instagram is that your customers are on it.

It's hard to think of a business out there that doesn't have its customers, or at least a portion of its customer base on and using Instagram.

And I say that because with more than 1,000,000,000 people using Instagram every single day, I challenge you to tell me that there isn't some of your customers using Instagram right now.

Add to that a recent study by Facebook which found that 83% of people use Instagram to find new services and discover new businesses and brands.

 So as I said,

with more than 1,000,000,000 people using Instagram, there is a huge opportunity for you to get on the platform, and to start finding and engaging with your customers.

And this brings me on to the next huge benefit of Instagram.

 And that is customer research.

You have a wealth of knowledge at your fingertips, inside your phone on the Instagram app to find out all about your customers and clients, their lifestyles, their locations, their values, their beliefs, their hobbies, the things they love, the things they don't love.

It's all there for you to discover on Instagram.

For example, you know that your target customer, your target client, or at least a segment of your customers are work-from-home dads.

So you start by searching #workfromhomedads.

Searching that hashtag will bring up a whole host of results of people, your target audience using that hashtag.

And then when you dig a bit deeper and you click on the content from the people using that hashtag, you will find out more about those people's likes, hobbies, dislikes, lifestyle, values, all the things that I just mentioned before, it's amazing customer research, you can find out so much about your customers on Instagram.

And the more digging you do, the more research you do, the more results you will find, the more insight you will find.

And it's really going to help you build out that information that you have, those target customer profiles that you have about your audience.

The next benefit of Instagram is the visual nature of the platform.

And the benefit of that is that it's a great way to showcase what you do, the products you sell, the service you provide, in a really rich and enticing way.

Of course, it might seem obvious that you know, the first industries that spring to mind that would work really well on Instagram are the travel, the beauty, the food, the fashion, the interiors, those kinds of industries.

But you'd be surprised at the amount of other industries that you wouldn't necessarily think of straightaway that are using the visual medium of Instagram to tell that brand story, to tell the story of their employees and their clients and customers in a really engaging way.

You only have to look around at businesses like General Electric, which I know is a business that has rolled out a lot in relation to Instagram.

And it is often looked at as a really great example of a business using Instagram well, because it isn't a business you'd think straightaway would work on Instagram.

In fact, if I sat down in a room and I was the marketer for General Electric for a few years ago, I might have said, "Oh, I'm not too sure "that Instagram is the first place that we should be."

And they have grown a hugely engaged audience, because of the way they shop on Instagram, but I'll talk more about them in a moment.

Other businesses that are doing really well on Instagram that you might not automatically think of, "Hmm, they do well on Instagram,"

are businesses like Hootsuite, HubSpot, and IBM.

So speaking of General Electric, one of the big benefits of Instagram is that it allows you to pull back the curtain on your business, and be more relatable to your target audience, your target customers and clients.

This is because of the way that people, everyday people, your customers and clients use Instagram.

Unlike platforms like even Facebook now it's different and Twitter, people use Instagram to connect with their friends and family.

And they're very used to seeing and sharing candid in the moment photos and stories.

And so that is why it fits really well if that is something that you want to do as a business, and it's a really great thing to do as a business, because like I said, it builds that connection with your audience, and it shows more of your relatable side, it shows more of the personality behind the business.

And General Electric is a brand, a business that does this really, really well.

They are really great at sharing employee stories and using employees kind of takeovers of their stories to take the audience behind the scenes of what it is like to work at General Electric, which is quite a mysterious, unknown thing.

I mean, I know what General Electric does and who they are, but I don't really know what goes on behind the scenes.

And General Electric does a really amazing job of peeling back the curtain, of taking away the mystery and allowing their employees to actually take you on a journey through what it is like to work at General Electric.

 And this helps the relatability.

It helps build a connection with the audience.

And it's how General Electric has built an incredibly engaged Instagram audience.

So speaking of stories, stories are a great way of continuing to build that trust and connection with your audience.

And one of the really great things that you have at your disposal, if you're thinking about using Instagram as a brand, or business is the Instagram stickers.

This is a great way of building trust and connection with your audience.

And you can use them in a number of different ways.

Whether you use the stickers for market research, whether you use them to get feedback on a new product or service, you're thinking about launching, or just as a fun way to engage and connect with your audience.

They are really, really great at building that one-on-one connection.

An example of a brand that did this recently is Pret, the food chain.

They did a really simple thing where they put up a story and they asked that audience to send in their quirky ingredients that they had in the cupboard.

And a Pret chef would respond with ideas about how to use those quirky ingredients in recipes.

And it's a really simple idea, really easy.

It didn't require much lift from Pret, because they just put up a simple story and a sticker, asking for the audience feedback.

And then they shared those simple ideas of the back of it.

So again, it's really simple, it's really quick, it's really instant.

It doesn't require a huge amount of thought or production or money invested in video or anything like that.

And yet, it's a really easy and quick way to build that trust and that one-on-one connection with the audience.

The next benefit of Instagram is something I've touched on throughout this video, but it's worth just saying explicitly here again, because it's such an important benefit of Instagram, and that is that you can use it to effectively communicate with your audience.

The wonderful thing about Instagram is that it really removes the barrier between business and customer.

It's a really intimate place that you can use and capitalize on to engage with your audience.

Because your audience, your customers and clients, they're used to engaging with their brands and favorite businesses in this way.

They're used to seeing their stories, they're used to seeing the stories of their favorite brands and businesses alongside the stories of their friends and family.

And that's why there is a real opportunity here.

If you take the time and really invest that time in Instagram and understanding the types of content your customers and clients love, the types of content that they like to engage with, and that really lights them up.

You can then better understand the content that you need to create to really engage and resonate with them.

But also you'll understand just how to communicate with them better.

As I said, people like to shop on Instagram, they like to share content that speaks to them and aligns to them and speaks their mind.

They like to save content to reference later and they like to comment on posts from their favorite brands and businesses.

So you have a real opportunity here to build a one-on-one connection with your target audience and connect with them in a way that isn't necessarily possible on other social media platforms.

So that is the beauty of Instagram.

It really allows you to speak one-on-one, directly to your target audience.

So make the most of that, capitalize on that.

And start engaging with your target audience, perhaps in a way that you haven't done very much before.

The final benefit of Instagram is that you can be creative.

You have Instagram lives, you have main feed posts, you have Instagram stories, you have IGTV, and then you have a whole bunch of features within each of those as well to use and be creative with.

Instagram allows you to explore so many different facets of your business, and to be creative with them in a way that

perhaps you haven't really been able to before.

Even if you're a B2B brand, even if you're a brand that you don't instantly think, "Hmm, creativity," Instagram allows you to push the boundaries of what you think you are as a brand your business and allows you to kind of break free from that and be a little bit creative.

It doesn't mean you have to go all out, like someone like Lego, who, of course, are the masters of being weird and quirky, and creative, and really pushing the envelope, even with their own expectations and your expectations of them as a brand.

They still always do something a little bit subversive, a little bit unusual, and it's incredible.

But like I mentioned before, there are plenty of B2B businesses on Instagram that are doing incredible things with Instagram, and building that trust and that connection with their audience and showing different sides of their business that they hadn't done before.

It really does allow you to be creative, and to be a little bit experimental.

And you know what, if it doesn't work, it doesn't work.

But that's the beauty of Instagram, you can try things, you can see what resonates with your audience.

And if it doesn't work, you try something else.

It really is the place to have a bit of fun and to be a bit creative.
